How to Make a Tiramisu Latte (2024)

Need an afternoon pick me up? Try our Tiramisu Latte, it’s like the Italian dessert in drink form.

How to Make a Tiramisu Latte (1)

Some desserts taste so good it deserves to be a drink too.

Tiramisu is one of them. So that’s why I created the tiramisu latte.

There are a few components to the tiramisu dessert – the cake layers, the cream layers and the cocoa powder topping. I gave each component a presence in the latte.

For the cake portion, which is usually made with espresso and an alcohol (amaretto is my preference!) soaked ladyfingers, I used espresso and amaretto syrup for the latte.

For the cream portion, which is usually made with heavy cream, raw egg whites and mascarpone cheese, I just used whipped cream as the topping of the latte.

And for the cocoa powder, which is usually on the top of tiramisu, I also topped the latte with cocoa powder, but also put chocolate sauce in the coffee. Plus, I served my tiramisu lattes with a ladyfinger cookie.

Tiramisu Latte Ingredients

  • ½ cup espresso(I used illy Intenso)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp chocolate sauce
  • 1 tsp amaretto or amaretto syrup
  • Whipped cream
  • Topping: Cocoa powder and or chocolate chips
  • Ice (optional)
  • Ladyfinger cookies (optional)

Tips for Making a Tiramisu Latte

Espresso

I used illy Intenso coffee beans. I purchased it in whole beans and grind it with my Hario Skerton hand grinder before brewing it in a moka pot.

Feel free to use your favorite coffee beans that you prefer to use to make lattes. I chose Illy Intenso, an Italian coffee to keep up with the tiramisu theme.

To make espresso, use an espresso machine. But if you don’t have an espresso machine at home, don’t worry. I frequently use a moka pot to make espresso for all my espresso based coffee drink recipes. It’s easy to use and creates the most espresso like coffee.

If you don’t have either at home, you can also make espresso using a French press or Aeropress. Or make the most concentrated coffee possible.

Milk

I used oat milk. You can use any milk of preference – whole milk, skim milk, plant based or milk alternatives.

Chocolate sauce

I used Torani Chocolate Sauce.

The top layer of tiramisu is a generous amount of cocoa powder. This is what gives each bite of tiramisu a chocolaty taste. I bring this cocoa flavor to the tiramisu latte with chocolate sauce.

Amaretto

I used a non alcoholic Monin Amaretto Syrup.

Tiramisu is traditionally made with ladyfingers soaked in coffee and a complementing alcohol. I like to make my tiramisu cake with amaretto, an almond flavored liqueur that originated in Italy.

If you want to add alcohol to your tiramisu latte, add in amaretto or other commonly used liquors for tiramisu like marsala, Grand Marnier or Kahlua.

And if you prefer a non alcoholic version, use amaretto syrup like Monin Amaretto Syrup. It tastes like amaretto, but slightly sweeter and without the alcohol. Monin’s is a sweet, slightly bitter almond flavor that is made without any artificial flavors or sweeteners.

Alternatively, if you don’t have or are looking for an alternative to using chocolate sauce and amaretto syrup, you can use tiramisu syrup.

Monin Tiramisu Syrup is a ‘blend of coffee, lady fingers, custard, cocoa and rum flavor for an authentic taste and aroma.’ So it takes care of all the flavors of tiramisu in one syrup.

Toppings

I top my tiramisu latte with whipped cream and cocoa powder. And also serve it with a ladyfinger on the side to go along with the tiramisu theme.

The toppings we’re putting on the drink resemble the creamy part of a tiramisu cake.

The cream portion of tiramisu is usually made with mascarpone cheese, raw egg whites and heavy cream. Some variations of tiramisu are made with mascarpone and heavy cream, omitting the raw egg whites.

Both versions are topped with a generous layer of cocoa powder or chocolate shavings. So you can also top your tiramisu latte with cocoa powder and or chocolate chips.

I decided to make my drink with just whipped cream and cocoa powder. If you’re making your own whipped cream, you can try adding in a little mascarpone for a true tiramisu flavor.

Ladyfinger

I used Balocco Savoiardi Ladyfingers, which you can find on Amazon.

Ladyfingers are Italian biscuits made of eggs, flour, baking soda and sugar. They make up the cake part of tiramisu as they are soaked in the coffee.

This is an optional ingredient for our tiramisu latte but I think it looks nice when you’re serving it.
