The trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2 has arrived. The movie is the second installment in a planned Renny Harlin-directed trilogy of home invasion movies starring Madelaine Petsch as Maya. 2024's Chapter 1, which was itself the third installment of the franchise, earned a dismal 21% on Rotten Tomatoes but became a box office success, grossing $47.8 million worldwide against its $8.5 million budget. The upcoming The Strangers: Chapter 2 will continue Maya's story as she has another encounter with the titular trio of masked home invaders.

Lionsgate Movies has now unveiled the official trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2. The trailer returns the action to the remote Pacific Northwest town of Venus, where a sinister-sounding religious radio program plays over footage of Maya waking up in the hospital and being picked up by a van of people who seem to be connected with the Strangers, given their intense gazes, happy face tattoos, and the fact that one of them pulls out a knife. She becomes nervous to the point that she imagines them wearing the Strangers' masks.
The title of the video also confirms the movie is coming in 2025, though the trailer does not announce the exact official release date. Instead, it ends with the announcement that the movie is "coming soon." Watch the full trailer below:

What This Trailer Means For The Strangers
The Video Contains Many Teases And Reveals
The trailer teases new details of the story that comes after the Strangers: Chapter 1 ending. While it was already announced that the entire trilogy will be following Maya's ordeal, this footage teases that the sequel will follow her processing the trauma of the home invasion of her AirBNB and the death of her boyfriend Ryan (Froy Gutierrez). It also seemingly teases an exploration of the origin of the Strangers, as it ends with a young child asking "is Tamara here?" the question previously asked by an unseen, shadowy figure toward the beginning of each prior installment in the franchise.
So far, there has been no indication that Tamara is a real person, with the franchise implying that she is a fictional figure used to taunt various victims with the knowledge that there is someone unusual outside their home.

The trailer also teases a major expansion on the Strangers: Chapter 1 cast. In addition to seemingly offering a meatier role for Richard Brake, who made a brief appearance as Sheriff Rotter in the 2024 movie, it showcases The Night Agent star Gabriel Basso, who plays Gregory. While details about his character are unknown, he is a member of the sinister group in the van that picks up Maya and is seen giving her an intense glare as she frets in the back seat.
Our Take On The Strangers: Chapter 2 Trailer
The Movie Seems To Take A New Direction
Although the sequel was shot at the same time as the other installments in the trilogy, it does seem to be answering some of the concerns about Chapter 1. Many critics at the time pointed out how it did not have much to offer to the home invasion subgenre, with some calling it a pale retread of the original 2008 movie.

However, the Strangers: Chapter 2 trailer does not showcase any home invasion element at all. This could mean that the invasion has expanded to the entire town of Venus, or that the movie is taking an entirely different direction. If it indeed does so, and if it is successful, this could improve the response from both critics and audiences significantly.
